This Snowy Owl was on Amherst Island in Ontario, Canada in January 2009. About every four years the Snowy Owls "invade" the Northern US and Southern Canada, from their Arctic home, in vast numbers. This was one of those years. There were about a dozen on this small island on the US/Canadian border. It seemed unusual to see these big beautiful owls hunting the fields in the daylight. Snowy Owls are diurnal (active in the day) which is contrary to what most owls are and what most of our impressions are.
