As you can also see here in Bill's in-flight photo, there is very little black on the nape. Again, this was probably a young male.

This owl was only reported for a few days and you would guess it was in the state for a few more months before heading north again. It was pretty obvious and really stuck out. Since so many birders were looking for and hoping to see this bird... where did it go? Lets hope eventually it safely flew back up north. It makes you wonder how many of these owls show up all over the country each year that are never reported?
