The streaking and crossbars on the under parts of the Guatemalan Screech are much thinner (very thin, fine markings) than they are in the Eastern and Western Screech-Owls although it is still very close in size and appearance with the North American Screech-Owls. The size, dark bold facial rim, and fine chest streaking separate this screech-owl visually from any other in its range throughout Central America. Of course, positive identification of the screech-owls is always best done by their calls. |
