This juvenile Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl has not yet developed its distinctive adult white markings (i.e. head and forehead streaking) that help to differentiate it from the Northern Pygmy-Owl. The light brown or orangey brown tail barring, although, positively identify and distinguish the owl (Northern Pygmy-Owls have white tail barring). |
